What are Working Days?

Working days are the days of the week on which business is typically conducted. While the standard workweek in most Western countries is Monday through Friday (with Saturday and Sunday as weekends), this is not universal. For example, in many Middle Eastern countries, the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday. Our calculator allows you to customize this setting to match your specific geographic or corporate context.

The Formula

Calculating working days manually involves subtracting weekends and holidays from the total day count:

This tool calculates durations based on full days. It does not account for half-days, early closures, or time-zone differences. For precise payroll calculations, always cross-reference with your local labor laws and official company calendar.

Yes, by default, the calculation is inclusive, meaning both the start and end dates are counted as potential working days if they fall on a weekday.

Can I calculate working days for a 6-day work week?

Yes. Select the "Sunday Only" weekend option in the settings. This will treat Monday through Saturday as working days.

How should I format the holidays list?

You can enter dates in most standard formats like 2024-12-25, 12/25/2024, or Dec 25 2024. We recommend the ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD) for the highest accuracy.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes, the underlying engine uses standard date libraries that automatically account for February 29th in leap years.

What if a holiday falls on a weekend?

If you enter a holiday date that coincides with a weekend day, the calculator ensures it is not "double-subtracted." It will be counted primarily as a holiday in the breakdown.

Is there a limit to the date range?

Technically no, but for performance and practical accuracy, we recommend using ranges within the same century.
